The first nucleus of the
collection of objects related to the Chieri's textile activities is located at present in
the former Santa Chiara Convent, later Levi factory. Objects utilized in prevailingly
manual jobs and associated with farming, such as the tools for the cultivation of gualdo
(a herb used in deep blue dyeing of pieces), for silkworm breeding, for spinning and
weaving cotton, linen and silk, and for bleaching cotton fabrics. |
A first survey and the subsequent search have made it possible
to start preserving, but above all to recondition and make operative, for didactical
purposes, some particularly interesting types of machinery.
The present premises
can contain only a small part of the objects that represent the history of the textile
activities. When fully operative, the Museum will exhibit all this equipment, belonging
mainly to the period that goes from the early decades of the XVII to the Forties of the XX
cent., in the certainly much more suitable spaces in the buildings, conveniently
restructured, of the former Cotonificio Tabasso. |
